I've never had it.

I grew up in the Philippines in the 80s and we rarely ate SPAM. When you're too skint, SPAM is not something you buy. I remember they were 10P as opposed to 2P Ligo Sardines. They were actually expensive, that and tinned ham called DAK. It was when I moved to the States and having SPAM musubi that I stock it in my pantry and eat it on occasions (e.g. SLT with Sriracha sando). 😂

I remember being surprised the first time I ever heard that Oreo wasn't the true originator of this type of cookie. Upon finding out the original is called Hydrox, I'd say that Oreo may even be getting the benefit of their rival having such a strange name (at least by modern standards). I mean, who'd eat a product called Hydrox over something called Oreo? With that said, this appears to be the result of some rather epic gaslighting.

It kept SO many GIs from going to sleep hungry. All you needed was a can of spam and a knife. Thousands of cans eaten in foxholes all over the world during WWII. It was sometimes the ONLY thing Marines had to eat in the Pacific battlefields. They couldn't cook on the front lines so it was a good source of energy and several days could be carried in a rucksack. It even came with its own can opener soldered to the bottom!

I blame Dominos. They created the whole "carryout/Delivery" pizza culture we have today and cheapened the pizza experience for me. It used to be like fine dining, like going to Red Lobster, maybe. People would dress up to go to Pizza Hut and have a hot, fresh pizza delivered to their table whilst they played a tune on the jukebox. or had a fresh garden salad from the salad bar. Now because of the hurry up mentality of Americans, they chose Dominos, and Pizza Hut tried to follow suit and fell flat on their face, because that was not their forte

My grandparents raised 4 kids in the depression on a dairy farm in Idaho. They never wanted for anything. Grandmother canned everything. Including fresh trout. I remember looking at the jars. Oh my a trout sandwich was so good. But a fried spam sandwich was a reward. Spam tastes different now. But grandmother could make anything tastes good

I live in the UK and spam is not very well regarded. I love it!. I never got fed it as a child and only found it once I had left home . It's so versatile and I could not imagine not having it in my life.

Spam at $4.50 for 12 oz is crazy expensive to raw pork. I keep a can or 2 in my pantry but it’s really gone up in price over my lifetime.
